I was, then I wasn't, and now I am again.
Amazon will release their new Second Age Middle-Earth show in September, and a new announcement about it has made me happy about the whole situation again.
It's actually not the title, though The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an epic name. It's this statement by the showrunners:
“The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring –but before there was one, there were many… and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.”
That's what excites me. Okay, the writing staff was almost fired, and okay, they hired an intimacy coordinator, and okay, the Game of Thrones director is helping out. But... the major occurrences of the Second Age? Those would be SO cool to see! Númenor's rise and literal fall, two great wars against Sauron, and the story of Isildur! I was worried that it was going to be some kind of non-canon romance story in the Northlands.
So I'm a little encouraged.
