I'm seeing some improvement.
I'm using a boffer (foam sword) I made, because I'm a cheapskate. It weighs about 1 lb, or one-third of the real thing.
In this kind of exercise, I'm A) practicing my form in striking and B) learning to follow up one strike with another.
Notes for self-improvement:
In the first strike in the video (a shielhau, or "squinting stroke") I stretch way too much when I step.
My Vom Tag (rest position with sword at my shoulder) is weak. I'm slouching and resting the blade on my shoulder, along with keeping my feet too close together.
When I drill a duplieren, my zornhau (which sets it up) is really poorly executed in terms of footwork—I step with the wrong foot! Ouch.
My krumphau (weird windshield wiper-like cut) often lacks range, and I should probably work on improving that.
It doesn't really matter in a solo drill, but I don't step enough with my zwerchhau (helicopter-rotor cuts).
I think I should extend my arms more for most of the cuts, especially the unterhau (upwards cut) at the end.
My posture is mostly too slouchy.
