Seven Dwarven Mistakes

These are the mistakes movies make in portraying Dwarves.

Elderly Infants

Many Dwarves in stories are old even when "young". But why would they be? I mean, Tolkien said Dwarves aged slowly, so why should they be ancient even at the age of 70? I like how PJ Fíli and Kíli blow this stereotype to bits.

Similar Siblings

In the animated Hobbit film, Dwarf brothers are usually identical twins, which is downright creepy. Even Bifur and Borfur, who are cousins, are almost exactly the same.

Wimpy Beards

In the PJ Hobbit films, many of the Dwarves have suprisingly wimpy beards, especially Thorin, Kíli, and Bofur. Fíli is a little better, but still not too great. Even Dwalin, who is a very Dwarvish Dwarf, has a relatively small beard.

Why does Bombur look like Friar Tuck in the 1977 Hobbit?!

In the 1977 animated Hobbit, Balin and Dwalin (pictured) have very strange heads.

In the 1977 Hobbit, Balin and Dwalin (pictured) have odd noses. as well.

Absurd Axes

In many stories, Dwarves are equipped with absurdly huge axes and hammers. The PJ films got the hammer and axe size a little better, but still a little too big.
