"Russian warship, go f*** yourself."
—Ukrainian soldiers trapped on Snake Island, moments before being killed
I'm sure you all know what's going on in Ukraine. The second or third most powerful country on earth is attacking a little but strategically and economically important nation in eastern Europe. Ukraine is putting up a fight, but they are slowly being beaten down.
This is a disgrace, I think. NATO, of course, has shipped huge numbers of weapons to Ukraine and helped with intelligence, though the UN is basically incapable of helping.
This is a Thermopylae moment—a small nation bravely doing their best against the forces of a huge empire. The last words of those brave soldiers will probably go down in history as a famous gesture of defiance, almost on the level of, "Come and take them." A Russian TV channel has been hacked to play Ukrainian songs.
Who's the aggressor?
Not Ukraine. Ukraine has refused to join NATO so far. NATO has played a role in it, but Russia—hear me out on this—Russia is the attacker, and therefore the aggressor. Wow! Shocking, huh? Europe's desire to get Ukraine into NATO was only some fuel. Other fuel came from Russia with its funding of rebellions. And Russia has now lit the fuse.
From Ukrainian President Zelenskyy:
"I am here. We are not putting down arms. We will be defending our country, because our weapon is truth, and our truth is that this is our land, our country, our children, and we will defend all of this.
"That is it. That's all I wanted to tell you. Glory to Ukraine."
What will happen? I don't know. Just pray for Ukraine. And bravo to NATO.
